Eurosib opts for Trans-Rak
Eurosib, one of Russia’s largest private transport groups, recently organised its first block train, loaded with 24 Trans-Rak containers, to transport 96 Chery cars, from Wuhu City, in China’s Anhui Province, to Novosibirsk ( Siberia).
This first shipment by the St Petersburg-based forwarder marks the commencement of regular container transport of Chinese cars to Russia utilising Trans-Rak frames fitted into 40ft high-cube containers. Previously, the company transported car kits from China to Kaliningrad where they were assembled at the “Autotor” car-assembly plant.
Using two block trains loaded with 48 Trans-Rak-equipped containers, Eurosib will now transport Chery cars on a regular basis to Novosibirsk and Moscow, where they will be distributed by local car dealers Atlant-M and the IRITO Group.
Andrey Gorodezky, head of Eurosib’s South-East Asia division, reports that the company has ordered a further 100 sets of Trans-Rak frames to permit increased volumes of car imports from China. Domestic and foreign car dealers are showing particular interest in Trans-Rak containers, both to ship used Japanese cars from the Far East and to transport European cars from Finnish sea ports, he said.
Trans-Rak is an easy-to-operate, retractable, car transport system fitted inside a container. Four hardtop Chery cars can be shipped in one 40ft high-cube container, which provides protection for the cars against weather, theft and dents.
Cars can be loaded from ground or trailer deck level. Once the cars are driven out of the container, the Trans-Raks can be wound up into the roof void of the container using a Milwaukee drill to allow general cargo to be loaded for the backhaul.
Containers fitted out with the Trans-Rak system hold Lloyd’s Register safety certificates.
