August 8th 2007 - Car containers join CMA CGM fleet
The French shipping line CMA CGM is introducing 200 new car-carrying containers fitted with a system of sliding, retractable ramps into its fleet this month. The 40-foot containers can transport up to four vehicles of any kind and represent a breakthrough in automobile transport. The new Trans-Rak innovation offers a containerised alternative to shipping cars on car carrier vessels. It makes service to secondary ports easier and door-to-door service possible without breaking bulk. CMA CGM plans to purchase additional car-carrying containers by the end of the year, to meet its customers’ needs.
